Understanding Your Condition

What Causes Vertigo & Dizziness?

Vertigo & Dizziness is one of the most common conditions we treat at Activ Therapy. Understanding the underlying cause is the first step towards lasting relief. Our practitioners take the time to properly assess your condition before beginning any treatment — because the right diagnosis leads to the right treatment.

Our Approach

How We Treat Vertigo & Dizziness

Dizziness has many causes, so the assessment matters more than the treatment. Our vestibular-trained physiotherapists work through a structured examination — positional testing such as Dix-Hallpike, eye movement and gaze stability testing, balance and gait assessment, and a neck screen — to identify which system is actually driving your symptoms. BPPV, the most common cause, is treated with repositioning manoeuvres such as Epley and often resolves in one to three appointments. Where the cause is a vestibular loss, concussion, or the neck, treatment shifts to a graded program of gaze stabilisation, habituation, and balance retraining. We screen for the red flags that need medical review and refer on promptly when your presentation is not something physiotherapy should be managing.

Recovery Expectations

BPPV often resolves within 1–3 sessions once the affected canal is identified and repositioned. Vestibular hypofunction, post-concussion dizziness and balance retraining respond more gradually, typically over 6–12 weeks of progressive exercise, with steady week-to-week gains rather than an overnight fix.
